Ministry of Defence.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is the premier government ministry responsible for safeguarding the national security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of India. Operating strictly under civilian authority, the ministry translates policy decisions made by the Cabinet into executive mandates for the implementation of the three main military wings: the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force, alongside the Indian Coast Guard. The MoD is structured into five specialized divisions: the Department of Defence (which oversees general defence policies and international cooperation), the Department of Military Affairs (dedicated to tri-service integration under the Chief of Defence Staff), the Department of Defence Production (focused on bolstering indigenous manufacturing and domestic industry self-reliance), the Department of Defence Research & Development (overseeing critical technological innovations via the DRDO), and the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare (which coordinates veterans' benefits and pension administration). Through this comprehensive framework, the ministry manages allocation of the national defence budget, coordinates global strategic partnerships, and continuously steers the comprehensive modernization of India's armed forces
