The XIIth Scientific Assembly of the International Association of Hydrological Sciences will be held in India after 16 years, highlighting key innovations in the field.
Key Features and Scientific Focus:
The IAHS 2025 Assembly is designed with an innovative format to maximize interaction and visibility:
- Fully Plenary Sessions: A major innovation is that the Assembly will be held entirely in plenary sessions, without parallel sessions. This aims to increase interaction and audience size for all oral presentations, making discussions more engaging and increasing the visibility of speakers.
- Guaranteed Oral Slot for All Participants: All participants will have an oral slot in the plenary. This ensures visibility for early career scientists as well. Contributions can be:
- Plenary Oral: A 15-minute presentation with a 10-minute discussion.
- Forum Oral: A brief 1-minute flash presentation in the plenary room.
- Forum Oral with Poster: A 1-minute flash presentation plus a traditional poster display.
- Forum Oral with Poster & Video Interview: A 1-minute flash presentation, poster, and a 3-minute video interview to be shared on the IAHS YouTube channel.
- No “Call for Sessions”: To emphasize hydrology as a unique discipline, there will not be a traditional “Call for Sessions.” Instead, the scientific program will cover all the various scientific initiatives of IAHS.
- Scientific Topics: The conference will cover a wide range of topics aligned with IAHS Commissions and Initiatives, including:
- Continental Erosion (ICCE)
- Coupled Land-Atmosphere Systems (ICCLAS)
- Groundwater (ICGW)
- Human-Water Feedbacks (ICHWF)
- Remote Sensing (ICRS)
- Statistical Hydrology (ICSH)
- Snow and Ice Hydrology (ICSIH)
- Surface Water (ICSW)
- Tracers (ICT)
- Water Quality (ICWQ)
- Water Resource Systems (ICWRS)
- The 23 Unsolved Problems in Hydrology (UPH)
- Measurements and Observations in the XXI Century (MOXXI)
- Citizen and Hydrology (CANDHY)
- History of Hydrology
- HELPING Themes for Science-Based Solutions (Global and Local Interactions, Holistic Solutions for Water Security, Cross-Cutting Goals)
- Water Nobel Laureates: A special session on October 9, 2025, will feature the three most recent Stockholm Water Prize Laureates: Andrea Rinaldo (2023), Taikan Oki (2024), and Guenter Blöschl (2025). This is a rare and significant event.
- Side Events and Pre-Conference Events: Various side events and training programs are planned to enhance engagement and collaboration.
